Abstract
Background: Irritant contact dermatitis is a skin inflammation that occurs without the process of sensitization, caused by exposure to irritant substances. In Indonesia, it has been reported that 97% of 389 cases of skin diseases are contact dermatitis, with 66.3% of these cases being ICD. Activities in farming often involve direct contact with chemicals, such as pesticides, which can cause irritant contact dermatitis. Therefore, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) plays an important role in farming activities.
Objective:The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the use of PPE and the occurrence of ICD due to pesticides in farmers in Bulus Village, Tulungagung Regency.
Method:This research uses an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 19 farmers was surveyed using a questionnaire, and the data were analyzed both descriptively and analytically using IBM SPSS software with the Pearson Chi-Square statistical test.
Results:There is a significant relationship between the use of PPE and the incidence of ICD caused by pesticides among farmers in Bulus Village, Tulungagung Regency, with a p-value of 0.027 (p < 0.05).
Conclusion:This study shows that there is a relationship between the use of PPE and the occurrence of ICD due to pesticides among farmers in Bulus Village, Tulungagung Regency.
