Abstract

This study aims to assess the relationship between emotional intelligence and the ability to comprehend mathematical concepts as well as social attitudes among class XI students at SMAS Muhammadiyah Limbung. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 89 students, randomly selected from a population of 125. Data were collected using a questionnaire that assessed emotional intelligence, social attitudes, and students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The analysis revealed that most students had moderate (34%) and high (24%) levels of emotional intelligence. The majority of students also demonstrated moderate (33%) and high (24%) abilities in understanding mathematical concepts. Regarding social attitudes, most students scored in the high (35%) and very high (25%) categories. The correlation test showed a significant and strong relationship between emotional intelligence and mathematical concept understanding (r=0.745, p<0.001), as well as with social attitudes (r=0.614, p<0.001). The findings conclude that emotional intelligence is crucial in supporting students' understanding of mathematical concepts and the development of social attitudes. The study recommends the implementation of educational programs aimed at enhancing emotional intelligence to improve mathematics learning and social attitude development in schools.
