Abstract
The use of sarcasm, which is prevalent among students, has the potential to create conflicts and influence character development. This study aims to analyze the use of sarcasm in conversations among MTs Muhammadiyah Likuboddong students and its implications for strengthening student character. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through interviews and documentation. The results of the study show: First, there are five forms of sarcasm in student conversations: (1) insults as expressions of hatred, expressions of anger, references to animals, and references to cursed beings, (2) verbal abuse using vulgar language, (3) ridicule referring to incompetence, (4) mockery that belittles and involves physical appearance or skin color, (5) derogatory remarks involving economic status and self-esteem. Second, the implications of using sarcasm in conversations among MTs Muhammadiyah Likuboddong students include negative impacts such as causing misunderstandings, triggering arguments or conflicts, making social relationships less harmonious, eroding mutual respect, and creating an uncomfortable classroom atmosphere. Efforts to address the use of sarcasm include wisely reprimanding and advising students, organizing character education programs such as discussions on communication ethics and strengthening empathy values, conducting positive communication training during teaching and learning activities, organizing extracurricular activities such as scouting organizations, Muhammadiyah Student Association, and Tapak Suci Muhammadiyah, and integrating character values into the curriculum of academic subjects.
