Abstract
This research aims to find out how the conflict in India's Ladakh affected the increase in China's defense budget in 2020. As is known, China and India have not had good relations since 1967, precisely during the Sino-Indian war. Moreover, in 2020, China and India experienced a military clash in the Galawan Valley area, Ladakh, India which killed 20 Indian soldiers and this is what China fears if India counterattacks in the Himalayan Mountains border region against Chinese troops. So in this case China continues to increase its defense budget to use it as a tool to intimidate India so that it does not carry out attacks that would endanger both countries. In this research, the use of descriptive methodology with a qualitative approach can help explain the influence of the Ladakh conflict on the increase in China's defense budget in 2020. The use of the Military Expenditure Concept and the Deterrence Concept helps to obtain the results of this research, where the increase in China's defense budget is also influenced by the large amount of natural resources in the Himalayan mountain region which can provide benefits for China and the increase in China's defense budget is carried out to increase the country's security stability and also as a weapon for bluffing (Deterrence) against India.
