Abstract
The character's aggressive neurotic is influenced by past trauma that cannot be controlled. Aggressive neuroticism is used as the character's self-defense effort. This research aims to describe the aggressive neurotic form of the character as a self-defense effort and detail the main factors of the main character's neurotic conflict in the novel Retak by Azhara Natasya. This research uses a literary psychology approach with the study of Karen Horney's Social Psychoanalysis analysis. The data in this study are in the form of story units in the form of dialog, monologue, or narration. Data collection uses reading and note-taking methods. The data that has been collected is analyzed with coding techniques and then described and interpreted. The results of this study show that the aggressive neurotic form of the main character is divided into three, namely the need for power or authority with aggression and violence patterns, the need to take advantage of others with manipulation and exploitation patterns, and the need for ambition and social appreciation with obsession and domination patterns. Neurotic conflicts experienced by the character are interpersonal conflicts caused by the character's relationship with the closest environment, namely the family environment and the social environment of the character's friendship. Neurotic conflicts develop into anxiety and basic hostility.
