Abstract
This study aims to identify character values in song lyrics from Indonesian language textbooks in the Merdeka Curriculum for elementary schools and describe their utilization in character-building for students. The research focuses on analyzing moral and ethical values within the lyrics and the effectiveness of songs as a medium for learning. This study employs a descriptive qualitative method with a text analysis approach applied to five songs found in the textbooks. The findings reveal that the song lyrics encompass five main character values: religiosity, nationalism, integrity, independence, and collaboration. The lyrics of "Bang Bing Bung Ayo Ke Bank" highlight integrity through the encouragement to save money, while "Aku Anak Indonesia" instills a sense of nationalism and love for the country. These values are delivered in an engaging and easily understandable manner for students through activities such as singing, repetition, and thematic discussions. In conclusion, the song lyrics in Merdeka Curriculum textbooks are proven to be effective tools for character education. They not only reinforce moral messages but also create interactive and relevant learning experiences. This research is expected to provide practical benefits for teachers in developing creative learning strategies and serve as a reference for further studies on character education using creative media.
