The 2024 presidential and vice presidential debates are expected to be a medium for learning Indonesian, but it is often that there are deviation of politeness in these debates. This study aims to describe the forms of deviations of language politeness in the 2024 presidential and vice presidential debates and the relevance of teaching material sources in Indonesian language learning. The method used in this research was qualitative with instrumental case study type. The data sources of this research were the entire five sessions of the 2024 presidential and vice presidential debates. The research analysis technique used content analysis. The stages include collecting and transcribing debate data, grouping data based on politeness deviation categories, displaying data, analyzing, and drawing general conclusions. The results show that all types of maxim violations, such as tact maxim, generosity maxim, approbation maxim, modesty maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim can be found throughout the five presidential and vice presidential debates of 2024. The most dominant form of deviation is the deviation of the maxim of approbation. The types of expressions are mostly in the form of direct attacks, personal attacks and satire. The results of this study also show that there is a relevance of the presidential and vice-presidential debates as Indonesian language learning media based on the Learning Outcomes, especially related to listening and speaking or presenting materials. Debate texts can be a means of enriching vocabulary, understanding contextual topics, emphasizing debate through data, the urgency of holding universal values as an agreement or handle in debating, and synergizing the principles of politeness in Indonesian language content in debate lessons, especially in order to avoid personal attacks. Thus, the content of the presidential and vice presidential debates can be an instrument for learning Indonesian as well as learning about citizenship and the importance of politeness values in language.
