Abstract
Background: The increasing number of patients with severe mental disorders accompanied by
hallucinations has become a significant issue in Indonesia. This study focuses on two patients
at UPT RS Bina Laras Pasuruan: Mr. W, who experiences auditory and visual hallucinations,
and Mr. M, whose hallucinations trigger aggressive behavior. Both require a holistic approach,
such as a combination of mindfulness meditation and art therapy, to manage symptoms and
improve quality of life.
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of mindfulness meditation and art therapy in reducing
hallucination symptoms, focusing on nursing assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and therapy
implementation for patients.
Method: A descriptive study involving two schizophrenia patients. Mindfulness meditation
intervention included five main aspects (observing, describing, acting with awareness, non-
reactivity, non-judging) following the Standard Nursing Therapy Procedure (SPTP 1–4),
conducted in 5–10-minute sessions. Art therapy involved drawing activities to channel
emotions and divert attention from hallucinations. Evaluation was conducted through
interviews, observation, and documentation over one week.
Results: Mindfulness therapy reduced hallucination intensity by enhancing body awareness
and reality focus, while art therapy facilitated creative emotional expression and improved
social interaction. Although symptoms were not fully resolved, both therapies demonstrated
positive outcomes.
Conclusion: The combination of mindfulness meditation and art therapy effectively reduced
hallucination symptoms in Mr. W and Mr. M, while supporting their emotional and social well-
being. This approach is recommended for implementation in healthcare facilities using a
holistic strategy.
