Abstract
Background : Online game addiction has become an increasingly widespread phenomenon among teenagers, including parents and researchers. This phenomenon is related to technological advances and high internet accessibility, which allows teenagers to engage in online gaming addiction. Online game addiction can affect teenagers' social interactions both positively and negatively. On the other hand, it can result in social isolation, decreased academic performance and mental health problems. This research aims to determine the relationship between online game addiction and adolescent social interactions.
Methods : This research study uses a Cross Sectional design. This research used a random sampling technique with a population of 85 students. The independent variable is online game addiction and the dependent variable is social interaction. Both variables use the Game Addiction Scale (GAS) and Social Interactions Questionnaire (SIQ) questionnaire instruments. Data analysis used the Pearson correlation test.
Results : The statistical test results show a p value of 0.05 (α > 0.05) with a correlation coefficient of 0.103. That there is no relationship between online game addiction and adolescent social interaction. The results of this research show that students at Malang National Vocational School have a mild addiction to playing online games (43.5%), and there is less social interaction among teenagers (64.7%).
Conclusion : Based on the researchers, they concluded that online game addiction among teenagers has a significant impact on their social interactions. Research shows that factors such as social environment, family support, and individual characteristics contribute to addiction rates. Thus, teenagers can take advantage of the positive benefits of online games without disrupting their social relationships and environmental well-being.
