Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms and functions of implicatures within the poster languageoflegislativecandidatesinBalikpapan,focusingonhowimplicitmessages.Thisresearch adopts a qualitative approach with a descriptive-analytical method. Data were collected through documentation of posters published by various political parties between November and December 2023 in Balikpapan. The data analysis was conducted using Miles and Huberman's model, which includes data collection, reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Posters were examined fortheirlinguisticandvisualelementstoidentifyimplicaturesandtheirfunctionswithinthepolitical communication context.
The findings reveal that the forms of implicatures in the posters reflect political communication strategies emphasizing commitment to public service, collective solidarity, candidate image building, and affirmation of local cultural values. The functions of implicatures include establishing credibility, fostering unity, eliciting support and sympathy, and delivering political messages subtly. These findings contribute significantly to understanding the role of languageinpoliticalcampaignsandtheeffectiveuseofpostersaspersuasivetoolsinshapingvoter perceptions.
