Abstract

In the process of writing a thesis, students tend to experience stress. Stress that occurs in the academic environment is called academic stress. Academic stress that is not immediately resolved will cause impacts and symptoms that will affect cognitive abilities, feelings, physical reactions and behavior. This research aims to find out whether there is an influence and to see how much influence hardiness has on academic stress in students who are working on their thesis in Malang City. Sampling in this study used a non-probability sampling technique with quota sampling type and the number of samples taken was 180 samples. The characteristics of this research are (1) Final semester students who are working on their thesis, (2) Students who are studying at universities in Malang City. The sampling limit in this study was students aged 20-25 years. The research instruments used were Gadzella's Student-Life Stress Inventory and Dispositional Resilience Scale (DRS-15). Data analysis uses simple linear regression analysis with negative results. The research results also show that there is a significant influence between hardiness and academic stress with an effective contribution of 18.5%. So it can be said that there is a negative and significant influence of hardiness on academic stress in students who are working on their thesis, where when student hardiness is high, student academic stress will be low.
