Abstract
The use of slang in learning interactions, both at elementary, secondary, and tertiary
levels. This study aims to describe the form of slang, the fungtion of slang, and the
factors that trigger the use of slang in learning interactions. This study uses a
qualitative methodology through interview and observation techniques with class
VIII students of MTs Muhammadiyah 2 Kedungadem. The data obtained were
classified and analyzed according to the existing problem formulation. The results
of the study indicate that slang in learning interactions is in the form of deviations
in the pronunciation of formal language rules, abbreviations, and metathesis. The
function of slang is often used as a way for students to express familiarity and
motivation, express feelings and emotions, and show social relationships. Factors
influencing the use of slang are age and developmental stage, interests and talents,
and environment, social media/technology. These findings indicate that slang can
enrich students' social lives. However, on the other hand, excessive use of slang can
have a negative impact on language development and communication. It is
important for students to be wise in using slang and to maintain the use of good and
correct Indonesian.
