Abstract

Expressive speech has various media to communicate, one of which is song lyrics. Mahalini's songs generally tell the story of a love journey that reveals expressive feelings such as disappointment, sadness, heartbreak and the value of life that is in accordance with the reality of today's teenage life. The purpose of this study is to analyze the form and meaning of expressive speech in the lyrics of the singer Mahalini and its relevance to poetry learning. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to explore linguistic units that contain expressive speech acts through a pragmatic approach. The research data is in the form of song lyrics that are selected using documentation, listening, and note-taking techniques. The results of the study showed that there were various forms of expressive speech actions, such as disappointment, longing, regret, resignation, and hope, which reflected the emotional experience of the speaker. These forms are dominated by the use of declarative modes to convey feelings directly and explicitly. The meaning of speech includes convincing efforts, doubts about relationships, and confessions of mistakes that show the complexity of human emotions. Research has found that the lyrics of Mahalini's songs can be integrated as an effective poetry learning medium. With this approach, students can develop the ability to understand the inner structure of poetry, such as themes, atmospheres, and moral messages, as well as write creatively according to their ideas. This research is expected to make a theoretical contribution to pragmatic and practical studies on literature learning in schools.
