Abstract
Background: Epilepsy is a non-contagious brain disease and is usually characterized by unpredictable recurrent seizures that can involve part or all of the body and may be accompanied by loss of consciousness. The use of pharmacological therapy in epilepsy patients aims to control the occurrence of epileptic seizures, one of which is phenytoin.
Purpose: This study aims to determine the pattern of phenytoin drug use including dose, dosage form, route, and frequency in epilepsy patients at Tabalong H. Badaruddin Kasim Regional General Hospital.
Methode: The study was an observational study with descriptive in nature with a retrospective data collection pattern from the medical health records (RMK) of epilepsy patients for the period January - December 2023.
Results and Conclusions: The most common single use was Phenytoin (2 x 100 mg) po in 11 patients (64%), combination 2 Phenytoin (3 x 100 mg) po + Clobazam (1 x 10 mg) po in 15 patients (52%), combination 3 Phenytoin (3 x 100 mg) po + Clobazam (1 x 10 mg) po + Valproic Acid (1 x 500 mg) po in 7 patients (35%). There are 2 of patterns changing drugs. Achievement of the target of no seizure in 39 patients with a percentage of 62%.
