Abstract

Pentigraf diction refers to the choice of words or phrases chosen by someone to convey certain ideas, feelings, or messages in writing a three-paragraph short story. Pentigraf diction to create atmosphere, describe characters, and convey messages in a concise but meaningful way. The social stylistics approach focuses on the relationship between language choices and social context. The focus of social stylistics is how language reflects, shapes, and is influenced by social elements in communication. The purpose of this study is to (1) determine the choice of diction that reflects the social and cultural conditions of the society described, and (2) determine the use of social variation diction in language, such as the use of regional languages, slang, or other variations. The data source for this study uses the pentigraf text found in the book "Sekian Jalan Menuju Pasar" by Kampung Pentigraf Indonesia in 2021. This research method is descriptive qualitative. The data collection technique used is the reading and note-taking technique. The results of this study indicate that the pentigraf text "Sekian Jalan Menuju Pasar" shows the presence of social diction used to describe the characterization, setting, and themes that form a story. The social diction contained in this study consists of several aspects, including; (1) social status influenced by social class, work/profession, material, and title/position, (2) background influenced by family relationships, friendship relationships, and power relationships, and (3) social change influenced by the entry of foreign/loan words and the entry of new terms.
