Abstract
Ahead of the 2024 Indonesian presidential election, the presidential and vice-presidential candidates are vigorously campaigning in various regions. Besides being regarded as a figure who is polite in speech, the presidential candidate 01 is also considered skilled in rhetoric. This research uses a relevant approach to analyze interactions in public communication, namely the theory of face politeness. This study aims to describe the politeness strategies of the 2024 presidential candidate 01 in the Muhammadiyah public dialogue. This research uses a qualitative research design that is descriptive in nature. The data source for this research consists of transcribed YouTube videos of Muhammadiyah public dialogues. The research data consists of transcriptions of the speech of the 01 presidential candidate that contain politeness, whether in the form of words, phrases, clauses, or sentences. The data collection technique used document study with techniques of listening, transcription, reading, and noting. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research results show that the politeness of the speech of the presidential candidate 01 uses bald on record strategies, positive politeness strategies, negative politeness strategies, and off record strategies in presenting their vision and mission and answering questions posed by the panelists and the audience. These strategies are used to avoid negative face for the interlocutor.
