Abstract

The novel Orang-Orang Oetimu is a depiction of the social inequality that exists in literary works, when power dominates all aspects of social life. This research aims to analyze the types, forms and functions of representations of power in the novel Orang-Orang Oetimu by Felix K. Nesi. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method with a literary sociology approach. Data collection uses reading and note-taking techniques. The research results show, firstly, the type of representation of power in the novel Orang-Orang Oetimu by Felix K. Nesi, social power through asset ownership, political power through institutional authority and abuse of power, economic power through monopoly, cultural power through the formation of public opinion. secondly, there are three forms of representation of power in the novel Orang-Orang Oetimu by Felix K. Nesi, coercive power is characterized by oppression, legitimate power is characterized by tradition and religion, expert power is characterized by community beliefs. The three functions of power representation in the novel Orang-Orang Oetimu by Felix K. Nesi are social criticism, identity formation and social control.
