Abstract

Ainayah Alfatihah L 2024. "Phenomenological Study in Examining Studi in Examining Gen Z’s Self-Disclosure Culture at MAS Al-Hidayah Wewit Through Facebook Social Media at MAS Al-Hidayah Wewit": Thesis, Master of Pedagogy Study Program, Directorate of Postgraduate Programs, Muhammadiyah University of Malang. This research is motivated by the phenomenon of social media use, especially Facebook, which is still the main platform for Generation Z in remote areas such as MAS Al-Hidayah Wewit. Generation Z as digital natives tends to use social media to express themselves (self-disclosure), both in the form of sharing opinions, feelings and daily activities. However, this culture has positive and negative impacts on their character and dynamics. Therefore, this research aims to analyze Generation Z's self-disclosure culture at MAS Al-Hidayah Wewit through Facebook social media, the factors that influence it, and its impact on student character formation.
This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data was obtained through in-depth interviews, observation and documentation of four informants consisting of students and teachers. The data analysis technique follows the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions based on Miles and Huberman's theory.
The research results show that Facebook is used as a significant space for students to express themselves, increase self-confidence, establish social relationships, and motivate creative thinking patterns. Factors that influence self-disclosure include the need to connect, social norms, and ease of access to technology. However, negative impacts were also found in the form of the risk of dependence on social media which affected student productivity. For this reason, guidance from teachers and parents is needed in using social media wisely.
