Abstract

This study analyzes the transformational leadership model implemented by the principal of Muhammadiyah 01 Mantingan elementary school in establishing a character-based school. Transformational leadership is an approach that emphasizes idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration in fostering a conducive educational environment. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the principal serves as a role model through discipline and active participation in school activities. Inspirational motivation is demonstrated through teacher recognition and innovative programs such as the morning student greeting initiative. Intellectual stimulation is realized by providing teachers with opportunities to innovate in teaching methods. Individualized consideration is reflected in addressing the personal needs of teachers and students and providing supportive facilities.However, challenges such as resistance to change from some teachers and limited resources were identified. Nevertheless, the implementation of transformational leadership at this school has successfully fostered a positive work culture, enhanced teacher motivation, and developed students’ discipline, responsibility, and empathy. This study is expected to serve as a reference for other schools in adopting similar leadership models to cultivate a generation that is outstanding and character-driven.
