Abstract
Background : Delusions are one of the primary symptoms in patients with schizophrenia, affecting their ability to differentiate between reality and perception. A combination of drawing therapy and cognitive reconstruction is employed as a non-pharmacological approach to help reduce delusional symptoms by providing a medium for creative expression and rational thought-based interventions.
Method : This case study was conducted on a patient at UPT Bina Laras Pasuruan Rehabilitation. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and assessments using the PANSS (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale) instrument to measure positive, negative, and general psychopathological symptoms. Interventions involved a combination of drawing therapy and cognitive reconstruction along with nursing care based on the Standard Nursing Care Guidelines (SPTK) for delusions.
Results : Based on data analysis, the interventions resulted in significant reductions in positive, negative, and general psychopathological symptoms, with an average decrease of 2–3 points. Nursing evaluations revealed that the patient could identify and manage unrealistic thoughts, improved social interactions, and demonstrated better understanding of reality. Additionally, cognitive reconstruction techniques effectively helped the patient challenge delusional content and boost self-confidence through positive reinforcement.
Conclusion : The combination of drawing therapy and cognitive reconstruction is effective in reducing delusional symptoms, improving social interactions, and supporting emotional and cognitive recovery in schizophrenia patients. This approach can be integrated as part of holistic nursing care.
