PENGARUH ADAPTASI BUDAYA TERHADAP DISTRESS PSIKOLOGI PADA MAHASISWA BARU RANTAU

New students who come from outside Malang will migrate to the area where their campus is. Students who have just migrated will adjust to their new environment, this causes stress. Because the transition occurs simultaneously with other changes, both within the individual, in the family, and in the lecture. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of cultural adaptation on psychological distress in new overseas students is smaller than the effect of cultural adaptation on psychological distress in new sojourner students. In this study, the method of collecting data using accidental sampling technique is a technique of determining subjects based on chance. With the criteria for this research subject, namely: new students in semester 2, male / female with the age of 18-20 years, located in Malang City, who live in boarding houses, rented houses, and dormitories for the number of subjects in this study 272 subjects. The results of data analysis show that there is a negative effect of -0.301, meaning that the effect of cultural adaptation on psychological distress in new sojourner students is smaller than the effect of psychological distress on cultural adaptation in new sojourner students. The magnitude of R Square is 0.034. In other words, cultural adaptation can affect psychological distress in new sojourner students by 3.4%.
