Abstract
Typhoid Fever or Typhus abdominalis is an acute infectious disease that infects the small intestine caused by the bacteria Salmonella thypi, where toddlers are very often affected by this disease. Cases in Indonesia are still a common disease with 600,000-1,500,000 cases each year. In East Java Province itself, typhoid fever cases are among the 10 most common diseases suffered with a total of 163,325 cases. The incidence rate at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang Hospital was 127 cases in 2023. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and attitudes towards preventing typhoid fever in toddlers. This study used an analytical observational cross-sectional approach with 33 samples. The place of this research was conducted in the inpatient children of the Muhammadiyah University Hospital of Malang and was carried out in August 2024. Based on the results of the bivariate analysis, knowledge has a strong relationship with the prevention of typhoid fever in toddlers (p = 0.002, <0.05). The relationship between attitudes towards preventing typhoid fever also has a strong relationship statistically (p = 0.000, <0.05). The results above indicate that it is hoped that by knowing the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of mothers about Typhoid fever, it can prevent and overcome the occurrence of Typhoid fever. The conclusion of this study is that there is a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes of mothers towards the prevention of typhoid fever in toddlers.
