Abstract

This study aims to describe the mathematical communication skills of grade X students with visual learning styles in solving statistics problems. The type and approach of this research is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The subjects used in this study were three grade X students of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Batu. Data collection used is by collecting student learning style questionnaires then students with visual learning styles are grouped into high, medium, and low groups based on communication skills tests on statistics problems based on written mathematical communication skills. Furthermore, one student from each group category was taken and an interview was conducted related to the achievement of students' oral mathematical communication indicators. This study found that students with visual learning style with high skills met all four indicators of oral mathematical communication skills in this study, namely reflecting real objects, pictures, and diagrams into mathematical ideas; modeling situations or problems using oral methods; using reading, writing, and reviewing skills to interpret and evaluate ideas, symbols, terms, and mathematical information; and making conjectures, compiling convincing arguments, and making generalizations. Then students with moderate skills fulfill the first three indicators. While students with low ability only fulfill the first indicator of oral mathematical communication skills.
