Abstract
One of the materials that is considered important in solving problems is explanatory material. Currently, students' ability to solve mathematical problems, especially those involving exponents, seems to be still low. Based on the description above, the researcher wants to analyze the extent of students' understanding and creativity in solving exponential problems. So the title of this study is "Analysis of students' mathematical concept understanding in solving exponential problems" This study is a descriptive qualitative study that aims to describe a clear and detailed picture of students' understanding of mathematical problem solving concepts in exponential material. The location of this research was conducted at MA Aisyiyah Sungguminasa, Somba Opu District, Gowa Regency. The subjects in this study were class X students of MA Aisyiyah Sungguminasa, Somba Opu District, Gowa Regency. The following is how to analyze data according to Miles & Huberman data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions The results of the analysis show that the understanding of the concept of MA. Aisyiyah Sunguminasa class X students is still relatively low. This is evidenced by the results of the instrument essay test that has been carried out by providing 3 questions on understanding the concept. The results of the study showed that the percentage of indicators restating the concept was 50%, classifying objects according to certain properties according to the concept 50%, displaying concepts in various mathematical representations 30%, applying concepts or problem-solving algorithms 50%. Concept understanding and mathematical creative thinking of MAS Aisyiyah Sungguminasa students on exponential material were included in the low category. This can be seen from the number of students who have a conceptual understanding of 50%. Factors that influence students' conceptual understanding are influenced by student psychology. Lack of conceptual understanding of the material being studied due to the lack of effort made by students in solving the questions given by the teacher. Students expect more from the teacher, this shows that students' conceptual understanding is still relatively low.
