Abstract
Malang is known as a city of education because it has some of the best campuses so many people decide to migrate and continue their education there, both from around Malang City, and from outside Java, for example by migrants from Eastern Indonesia. This study aims to determine how the experience of intergroup anxiety in students nomads from the Eastern Indonesia region during their study in Malang. This research model is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Data was collected by observation and interviews which were analyzed using PFD (Descriptive Phenomenology Research). There were ten participants using purposive sampling technique. This research data validation method compares various kinds of data that have been successfully obtained including the results of interview transcripts with the participants, significant others, field notes, and voice recordings. The results showed that students nomads from Eastern Indonesia experienced intergroup anxiety. The causes of feelings of intergroup anxiety are explained in three main themes, namely adaptability, negotiating identity (cultural), and physical attributes. In an effort to eliminate or reduce feelings of intergroup anxiety, students nomads from eastern Indonesia try to be open and mingle with other people from different groups. In addition, the presence of regional organizations also plays a role in creating an inclusive life between groups in order to eliminate feelings of intergroup anxiety.
