Abstract
This study aims to describe 1) To find out the difficulties experienced by students in learning mathematics in grade IV students of MIS Muhammadiyah Waipare; 2) To find out the solutions that are carried out to overcome the difficulties of learning mathematics in grade IV students of MIS Muhammadiyah Waipare. The research method carried out is a qualitative approach with the type of research being descriptive. Data were obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation. The results of this study show that the difficulties in learning mathematics experienced by students are divided into three components: first, difficulties in understanding the concept of comparison between large and small integers; second, difficulties related to skills; and third, difficulties in solving problems. Efforts that can be made to reduce the difficulty of learning mathematics based on the difficulties experienced include: 1) Difficulty in understanding the concept of large and small number comparison, namely by using visual media in the form of number drawings, giving real examples, and utilizing educational games and taking time to give additional lessons; 2) The difficulty of counting skills is by using learning media; 3) Difficulty in solving problems is by increasing practice question.
