Abstract
In the implementation of learning, communication is an inseparable part of learning. In mathematics learning, mathematical communication skills are skills that students must have. Realistic problems are problems that exist in students' daily lives. In solving realistic SPLDV problems, students must have mathematical communication skills to solve problems related to SPLDV material. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative which aims to describe students' written mathematical communication skills in solving realistic problems on SPLDV material. The subjects in this study were 6 class VIII students at SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Babat in the 2023/2024 academic year with the existing categories. The instrument in this study used a written test of mathematical communication skills containing descriptive questions and interview guidelines. The results of the study showed that the written communication skills of the research subjects were weak in the indicator of the ability to write down what is known and asked in a problem, and good in the ability to replace each quantity and create a mathematical model in the problem, interpret the solution obtained or use a comprehensive representation to express mathematical concepts and their solutions, and the subjects were also still lacking in the indicator of the ability to explain the conclusions of the answers obtained into everyday language. The results of this study are expected to increase insight into the written mathematical communication skills of junior high school students, especially in solving realistic problems so that in teaching and learning activities students can improve their ability to communicate in mathematical language.
