Abstract
The results of the initial pre-research at SMAN 1 Gading on July 18, 2024, the ongoing learning process has not trained students to understand the context of critical thinking and its impact on students' cognitive learning outcomes. Students have not interacted with each other. In fact, interactions between peers in argumentation and discussion can help explain logical thinking.
This study aims to examine the effect of the Problem Based Learning learning with scaffolding support on improving critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes of students in biology lessons at SMAN 1 Gading Probolinggo. Using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design, this study involved two classes of XI selected purposively. Data analysis was carried out using the T test with SPSS to measure differences in cognitive learning outcomes and critical thinking skills between the experimental and control groups.
The results showed that the application of Problem Based Learning with scaffolding significantly improved critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes of Problem Based Learning compared to direct learning methods. In Problem Based Learning, students are faced with real Problems, which encourage active involvement and collaboration, thereby strengthening their conceptual understanding and critical thinking skills. scaffolding provides gradual support, helping students understand the material and develop analytical skills. The conclusion of this study is that the Problem-based learning with scaffolding is effective in improving critical thinking skills and cognitive learning outcomes.
