Abstract

Catfish (Clarias sp.) is one of the freshwater aquaculture commodities whose production is increasing because it is rich in nutrients and can meet the nutritional needs of people in Indonesia. In addition, catfish also has stomach contents that can be used to produce fish oil. Waste from the stomach contents of catfish includes the digestive tract, liver, bile, and abdominal fat. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of different extraction methods on the physicochemical properties of catfish oil. This study uses a simple complete random design with one factor, namely an extraction method consisting of wet rendering, dry rendering and n-hexane solvent, with test parameters of raw material fat content, yield, oil fat content, free fatty acids, peroxide number and iodine number. The results of the study show that catfish innards have a fat content of 13.02%. The difference in the extraction method of catfish offal oil has a significant effect on oil yield, fish oil fat content, free fatty acid content, peroxide number, and iodine number. The best treatment in the extraction of catfish offal oil was found in the dry rendering method, with a yield value of 14.60%, oil fat content of 62.55%, free fatty acids of 3.81%, peroxide number of 16.33 meq/kg, and iodine number of 40.51%.
