Abstract

Depression is more common in women than men. Biological, environmental, hormonal, and psychosocial factors that influence women to have higher levels of depression than men. Research on the application of MBCT to female prisoners is still limited. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of MBCT in overcoming depression in female prisoners in City X, providing new insights into mental health management in correctional institutions. This study examines the effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) in overcoming depression in three female prisoners aged 20-40 years, using a small-N design. Data were collected through clinical interviews, observations, and the Beck Depression Inventory-II (BDI-II) scale before and after the intervention. MBCT was implemented in eight sessions, focusing on increasing self-awareness and managing emotions. Data analysis was carried out interpretively to assess changes. The results of the study are expected to provide insight into the impact of MBCT on depression in female prisoners. The results of this study indicate that Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is effective in reducing symptoms of depression, by helping subjects recognize and replace negative thought patterns with more positive ones. Subjects also demonstrated the ability to develop concrete strategies to cope with signs of depressive relapse.
