Abstract

The phenomenon of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) among adolescents is increasing. This behavior is often used as an escape from negative emotions but can have harmful effects on both physical and psychological health. NSSI is known to be associated with a lack of emotional regulation skills. One effective intervention to enhance emotional regulation and reduce NSSI is Expressive Writing Therapy (EWT), as it allows individuals to express their emotions through writing. This research employs a quantitative approach with an experimental method, observing pretest and posttest results for each dimension. The study involved 10 subjects who met the research criteria. The subjects were divided into two groups: an experimental group and a control group. The data collection instrument used was the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ). Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann-Whitney test. The results of the analysis showed that Expressive Writing Therapy can reduce the suppression dimension in adolescents who engage in non-suicidal self-injury, but not in the cognitive reappraisal dimension.
