Abstract

This research examines the direction of Iran’s foreign policy under the presidency of Ebrahim Raisi. Amids the onslaught of economic sanctions and a deteriorating economic condition, the Iranian government is faced with the choice between continuing to rely on cooperation with western countries or seeking alternative options for survival. Due to scepticism toward western countries, Ebrahim Raisi has begun to align Iran with eastern power. The purpose of this research is to understand Iran’s foreign policy under Ebrahim Raisi’s presidency. This study is descriptive research using qualitative data collection methods through literature review. To analyse the data, the researcher applies foreign policy theory. The researcher finds that, in order to address economic problems and mitigate the effect of economic sanctions, Ebrahim Raisi has shifted Iran’s foreign policy toward eastern power. His goal is to weaken the effectiveness of the economic sanctions by strengthening foreign relations with eastern power and improving Iran’s relation with neighbouring countries. This is evidenced by various economic collaboration as well as security partnership in the middle east and south Asia, conducted by the Iranian government with countries such as Russia, China and other middle east nation. These collaboration aim to safeguard Iran’s national interest both in the middle east and on the international stage, as well as to address the economic challenges that arose during Raisi’s presidency.
