Abstract

Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN) is a traumatic childhood experience that is often not realized but has a long-term impact on an individual's emotional health. Adults who experience CEN tend to face anxiety problems due to insecurity, low self-confidence, and sensitivity to criticism and rejection. This study aims to test the effectiveness of Forgiveness Therapy in reducing anxiety levels in adults who experience CEN. The research design used was a pretest-posttest control group design. A total of 10 adult participants aged 25-30 years who experienced with anxiety and measured using the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-42), were randomly divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group received Forgiveness Therapy intervention for 6 sessions, while the control group received no intervention. The results showed that there was a significant reduction in anxiety in the experimental group after the intervention (p < 0.05), while the control group did not show a significant change. These findings support the use of Forgiveness Therapy as an effective approach to reduce anxiety in adult individuals experiencing CEN. It is hoped that this intervention can contribute to the development of psychological therapy for individuals who face the negative impacts of emotional neglect in childhood.
