Abstract

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is one of the most common psychological disorders experienced by inmates. However, this disorder tends to go undetected and untreated, which can worsen the condition of the prisoner. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in reducing symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder among female inmates. The research design employs systematic case studies. The subjects in this study consisted of three individuals, with inclusion criteria of being aged between 26-45 years, having a score of more than 31 on the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5), and presenting PTSD symptoms identified through clinical assessment. Data were measured using clinical interviews, observation, graphic tests, and the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5). The results indicate that Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is effective in reducing symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder among female inmates. After seven therapy sessions, the subjects experienced positive changes in accepting traumatic events, no longer avoiding stimuli or triggers related to the traumatic events, and were able to manage emotions associated with the traumatic experiences. Measurement results using the PCL-5 also showed a decrease in PTSD symptom scores following the intervention.
