Abstract

Mnemonic methods are one of the effective approaches in enhancing cognitive abilities, particularly memory, even for slow learners who have cognitive deficits, especially in their ability to sustain attention and recall information. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of applying mnemonic methods in improving cognitive abilities, specifically memory, in slow learner students. The study uses a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of one subject, a 14-year-old male student who is a slow learner. The method that used in this research is quasi-experimental with a single-subject experimental design with ABA model. The subject in this study was a slow learner child with cognitive issues, particularly in memory. The instrument used in this study is a behavior checklist designed to assess aspects and indicators of good memory. Data presentation and analysis in this study are presented in the form of descriptive graphs, showing that the application of mnemonic methods is effective in improving cognitive abilities, especially memory, in slow learner students. This is proven by an increase in the memory scores of the slow learner student during the intervention phase and the follow-up phase.
