Abstract

Road pavement refers to the layered structure situated above the subgrade, consisting of an upper and lower foundation layer, each composed of compacted aggregates that function to distribute the stress caused by wheel loads. There are three types of road pavements: asphalt/flexible pavement, concrete/rigid pavement, and composite pavement. To determine the thickness of flexible pavement, several methods can be used; this research employs the AASHTO 1993 method and the Bina Marga 1987 method. The research location is between Tulungagung Regency and Trenggalek Regency, specifically in the southern coastal area connecting Klatak Beach in Tulungagung and Prigi Beach in Trenggalek. This study focuses on comparing the pavement thicknesses derived from these two methods and calculating the budget plan for the method that yields the thickest and safest pavement. The results of the calculations, using a design life of 20 years and the same materials for both methods, show that the AASHTO 1993 method results in a total thickness of 52 cm, while the Bina Marga 1987 method results in a total thickness of 41 cm. The thickest and safest pavement is obtained using the AASHTO 1993 method, and thus the budget for the AASHTO 1993 method is
calculated, amounting to IDR 12,511,110,556.42.
