Abstract
Walimah al-‟urs holds significant wisdom: it expresses gratitude to Allah
SWT, symbolizes the handover of a daughter to her husband by her parents,
formalizes the marriage contract, marks the beginning of a new life for the couple,
and realizes the sociological meaning of marriage. Over time, and with the
influence of foreign cultures in Indonesia, the once simple walimah al-‟urs has
transformed into a more extravagant and costly event, often featuring additional
celebrations. This study examines the perspectives of brides and grooms in Bukit
Tunggal Village, Palangka Raya City, on walimah al-‟urs, using Al-Syatibi‟s
Maqasid Shariah framework, focusing on hifdzul mal (protection of wealth) and
hifdzul nasl (protection of lineage). Employing an empirical legal research method
and a sociological approach, which analyzes society and social phenomena, this
study reveals that respondents‟ views on walimah al-„urs fall into two categories:
simple and luxurious. Al-Syatibi‟s view on hifdzul mal and hifdzul nasl
emphasizes the avoidance of waste that could burden the couple and their
families, while ensuring the birth of children within a recognized and legitimate
union, thus supporting social continuity and the clear rights of children born from
the marriage.
