Abstract

The success of political modernization in Indonesia since 1998 has indeed received global recognition. The democratic electoral system has been carried out through general elections to obtain authority. Indonesia has had at least four elections, namely in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019, although there are still critics who have produced a government that gain trust, but in reality, Indonesia also has to experience the consequences of democracy which is not careful, it tends to be successful procedurally but on the other hand has not succeeded in improving the welfare of society. The impact of democracy which is only successful procedurally is a false reduction in
poverty because there are still many who are vulnerable. This poor situation seems to be maintained by poverty alleviation policies that use more social assistance instruments and pay less attention to creating decent work for the community, especially during the general election, people who are still not prosperous are only used for electoral purposes, so it is not surprising that at the age of 79 years Indonesia has not been able to provide true prosperity and has instead
created wider inequality, with the rich getting richer and the poor remaining poor.
