Abstract

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders in children affect behavior and activities. Parents who provide social support to ADHD children are considered to have an influence on tle lives of ADHD children. The support is in the form of emotional, instrumental, informational, appreciation, and spiritual support. The purpose of this study is to describe the form of social support, parents views on the importance of social support and the impact of social support. This type of research is case study research with a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews and documentation. The subject determination technique used purposive sampling. The results showed that the social support provide by parents includes: (1) Instrumental support in the form of education costs, nutritional needs, play equipment and entertainment. (2) Emotional support in the form of sympathy, empathy and giving special attention. (3) Appreciation support in the form of appreciation through words, deeds and rewards. (4) Information support in the form of giving advice so that children can be independent. (5) Spiritual and religiosity support in the form of motivating children and teaching children to pray, recite the Koran and prayer movements. Parents of ADHD children think that social support is important because it can be a motivation and encouragement for the child’s development process, increase the inner bond between the child and parents, and make the child feel safe and comfortable in the surrounding environment. The impact of social support is that children experience development positive, both in terms of emotional behavior, communication and socialization.
