Abstract
This research discusses "The Effectiveness of the Abrazos no Balazos Policy in Tacking Drug Trafficking in Mexico in the 2018-2023 Period". In this case, the issue of drug trafficking is a deep-rooted problem in the South American region. As president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador seeks to address this problem through the Abrazos no Balazos policy which focuses on a social approach. This research uses a descriptive methodology with a qualitative approach that can be used to help explain related phenomena. The use of incremental theory and the concept of human rights can help to strengthen the arguments and results of the research where the Abrazos no Balazos policy is a form of continuation of the previous government's policy with slight modifications, which is ineffective in solving the problem of drug trafficking in Mexico. This failure was due to government's lack of concrete approach, other than military operations. The monopoly of military power has led to an increase in homicides, organized crime, inter-cartel conflicts, misuse of weapons, the deployment of military troops and defense spending. In essence, the military approach has the potential to increase opportunities for human rights violations, abuse of power and corruption at all level of government and law enforcement.
