Abstract
Background : Metabolic acidosis is one of the complications in patients with chronic kidney disease, especially when the GFR value drops below 30 ml/min due to decreased ability of the distal tubule to reabsorb bicarbonate (DiPiro et al., 2020). The main therapy in patients with chronic kidney disease with metabolic acidosis complications is the administration of sodium bicarbonate (KDIGO., 2022).
Objective : Describe the pattern of sodium bicarbonate use in chronic kidney disease patients with metabolic acidosis including dose, route, frequency, and duration of use at Dr. Iskak Tulungagung Regional Hospital.
Method : The research used was a retrospective observational study with a descriptive data analysis method at Dr. Iskak Tulungagung Regional Hospital for the period 2023.
Results and Conclusion : The results of the study from 60 patients showed the most frequent pattern of Sodium Bicarbonate use was orally with a dose of (3x500mg) in 60 patients (82%) and use via intravenous drip route with a dose of (100 mEq) in 5 patients (7%). The most frequent duration of sodium bicarbonate use was 5-7 days (45%).
