Abstract
This study examines cyber pornography crimes on social media platform X, managed by the East Java Regional Police (Polda Jatim). The research questions are: How do alter accounts on social media X disseminate and sell pornographic content? And how does criminal law enforcement in Indonesia address the sale of pornographic videos conducted by the East Java Police? The legal research method used is empirical juridical with a sociological approach. Data was collected through interviews with research subjects and document/library studies. The findings indicate that the law enforcement efforts by the East Java Police are divided into three categories: preemptive, preventive, and repressive. These efforts are considered not yet optimal due to the persistence of offenders selling pornographic content online. The study reveals that the motivations of sellers and buyers in engaging in these practices include awareness, economic factors, availability, knowledge, profit, and minimal legal risk, which serve as rational choices for engaging in the trade of pornographic content via X. The practice of buying and selling pornographic content on X is conducted by exploiting the availability on Twitter. Legal countermeasures against the sale of pornographic content on social media X involve legal factors such as Article 27 Paragraph (1) of the ITE Law and Law No. 44 on Pornography; obstacles in the enforcement process including interviews with alter accounts selling pornographic content; lack of legal awareness among the public; and cultural factors where sex education is often considered taboo.
