Abstract

Background: Typhoid fever is an acute febrile disease caused by infection with gram-negative bacteria Salmonella enterica, especially Salmonella Typhi. Factors that cause typhoid fever are related to healthy and clean living and quantity in personal hygiene (washing hands after defecating, washing hands before eating, washing raw food), relatively low personal hygiene of food handlers, and unclean restaurant premises. The principle of typhoid management is to provide antibiotic therapy, adequate rest and supportive therapy. Antibiotics are chemical compounds derived from microorganisms that can kill and prevent organisms.
Objective: To determine the pattern of ceftriaxone use in typhoid fever patients in the Inpatient of Karsa Husada Batu Hospital.
Method: The study used an observational method with retrospective data collection for the period January 2020-December 2023 in typhoid fever patients.
Results and Conclusions: Ceftriaxone was used alone in all patients, most ceftriaxone (2x1gram) iv in 28 patients (100%). The use of ceftriaxone switch (1x2gram) > Ampicillin Sulbactam (4x2gram) iv as many as 1 patients (4%).
