Abstract

This research aims to identify the opportunities and challenges faced by Pakistan during the second phase of development in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) cooperation from 2020 to 2025. This phase focuses on industrialization through the development of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), growth in the agricultural sector, and tourism, which are expected to support Pakistan’s economic growth. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive method, with data analysis drawn from various literature sources, as well as examining the geo-economic framework as a tool to explain the economic interactions and development strategies of Pakistan through the CPEC project, taking into account Pakistan's strategic geographic factors. Based on the analysis using the geo-economic concept to explain the economic interactions and development strategies of Pakistan through the CPEC project, significant opportunities that arise include increased foreign investment, modernization of the agricultural sector, and improved connectivity through the development of strategic infrastructure. However, Pakistan also faces major challenges, such as growing economic dependence on China, external debt issues, and domestic security threats from extremist groups. Political commitment and policy reforms are considered crucial to maximizing the benefits of the CPEC project.
