Abstract
The lives of the residents in Kalipare-Donomulyo are still very much influenced by Javanese culture, some of them still believe in and carry out several rituals, one of which is the Ngeluari Ujar ritual. Ngeluari Ujar is a ritual for paying off vows using outer ketupat as a medium. This tradition of issuing the word is still carried out, especially for residents who believe in it, then through the holding of the word, local residents know that those who carry out this ritual have finished paying their vows.
This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type with the basis of this research being naturalistic. This research was carried out with the aim of finding out how the communication process occurs in the communication ritual of uttering words and knowing what the motivations of Kalipare-Donomulyo residents are for carrying out the ritual of uttering words. Data collection techniques use interviews. Data analysis techniques include data collection, data condensation, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. Based on the theory of communication elements from Hafied Cangara and 4 elements of a person's motivation to communicate based on the use of media from Mc Quail.
The results of this research show that verbal communication rituals fulfill the elements of the communication process proposed by Hafied Cangara and have 7 elements, namely source, message, media, recipient, influence, feedback and environment. Fulfills the elements proposed by McQuail regarding the 4 elements that underlie a person's motivation to communicate which originates from the use of media, namely, as a diversion, as a personal relationship, as a social identity, and as supervision.
