Abstract

Academic procrastination is a problem that often occurs in students which can be caused by excessive use of TikTok. One factor that affects both of these is sex. The purpose of this study was to determine sex as moderation variable of TikTok usage intensity on academic procrastination. This study uses a non-experimental quantitative research design using an associative study. Subjects were recruited using non-probability sampling techniques, using a random sampling method with the criteria of students using the TikTok application for a minimum of 2 hours per day., the total subjects in this study were 116 subjects. The research instruments used were the Social Networking Time Use Scale (SONTUS) on the academic-related periods subscale and the Academic Procrastination Scale-Short Form. The results of data analysis using the moderated regression analysis (MRA) method show that there is a moderating effect of sex on the intensity of TikTok use on academic procrastination with a significance value = 0.047 and β₁ = 0.737 and β₃ = 0.262. This shows that there is a moderating influence that strengthens sex on the intensity of TikTok use on academic procrastination. So it is hoped that each individual, especially students, can limit the use of TikTok within a time limit of less than 3 hours a day. Also, do not access TikTok if it is not related to ongoing academic activities.
