Abstract

The World Food Programme (WFP) is an international organization that plays a crucial role in addressing global food crises. In Venezuela, the food crisis has been caused by various factors, particularly the economic collapse, hyperinflation, political instability, U.S. Sanctions, the emergence of Covid-19, and natural disasters occuring in the country. These conditions have led to millions of people experiencing food shortages, with difficult access to food resulting in acute malnutrition. The importance of understanding World Food Programme strategic role in responding to this humanitarian crises has increased, given the complexity and far-reacing impact of the situation. Through of Memorandum of Understading (MoU) with the Venezuela government in 2021, WFP gained legitimacy to implement its aid programs, which include food distribution, cross-institutional coordination, and logistical support. This ressearch employs a descriptive cualitative method to analyze how the World Food Programme has contributed to addressing the food crisis in Venezuela. The results show that the WFP plays three crucial roles: Initiator in addresing the food crisis, a facilitator of pdetermined programs and a determinator in formulating policies and strategies. These three roles significantly contribute to mitgating the prolonged impact of the food crisis in Venezuela.
