Abstract
This study aims to describe the characteristics of meaning associations in words that are often used or related to bullying among high school students. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, which aims to describe the phenomenon in depth based on data collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis.
The results of the study indicate that a collection of words related to bullying form a complex conceptual map, known as a semantic network. This network connects meanings and concepts through cognitive associations, illustrating how various words are closely related to each other in students' thinking. This representation reveals that in the human mind, the meaning of words does not stand alone, but is dynamically connected through associations that reflect the interaction between experience, emotion, and memory.
In addition, the results of this study also show that words related to bullying, such as "insults," "threats," and "harassment," are often associated with negative concepts that strengthen the psychological impact felt by students. This process creates a dynamic structure of language understanding, where each word or concept is connected to each other, creating a network system that reflects students' understanding of their social world. These semantic networks also play a role in shaping students’ perceptions of social interactions, particularly in the context of bullying, and provide important insights into how language can be used to understand and respond to the phenomenon.
Thus, this study makes a significant contribution to the understanding of the relationship between language, meaning, and students’ social experiences, and how associations of meaning can shape individuals’ perceptions in the context of bullying.
