Abstract

Building construction requires a large budget, which is often a concern for the public. Therefore, the design needs to be revisited to ensure its effectiveness. This review requires contractors and consultants to think creatively, especially with the advancement of innovations in project execution methods. Value engineering is needed as an engineering and management science that helps the government optimize and save budgets, as well as determine infrastructure development priorities. The research on the construction of this classroom building is driven by the thought that in addition to the large cost, careful planning can reduce cost waste
in the construction of other school buildings. Therefore, the application of value engineering is necessary to achieve optimal cost utilization without reducing the original planned function. The results of the value engineering analysis showed cost savings on three selected work items: wall and plastering work, facade work, and floor and wall covering work. In the wall and plastering work using brick, there is a savings of Rp116,091,040, or 35% of the total cost of the item. In the facade work using polycarbonate sheet, the savings obtained were Rp105,741,770 or 33.93%. Meanwhile, in the floor and wall covering work using durafloor granite and homogeneus tile, the savings generated were Rp54,737,139 or 19.6%. Overall, the total cost savings reached Rp276,569,139 ot 9,53%.
