Abstract

This study aims to analyze the construction of hate speech and discrimination against Rohingya refugees in Aceh through TikTok video content. Using a qualitative approach, this research applies Teun A. Van Dijk's critical discourse analysis model and Axel Honneth's recognition theory. The findings indicate that hate speech and discrimination in TikTok discourse manifest in the form of dehumanization rhetoric, threat perception and verbal abuse. The analysis reveals misrecognition across Honneth's three dimensions of recognition: love, rights, and solidarity. In the dimension of love, refugees do not receive empathy and humane treatment. In the dimension of rights, there is a denial of legal recognition, resulting in the refusal of their basic rights. In the dimension of solidarity, refugees are not valued for their contributions and are instead positioned as a threat to the local community. These three forms of recognition failure exacerbate social polarization and deepen discrimination against Rohingya refugees, creating conditions that hinder efforts toward integration and social justice.
